“I never thought one small dot could make a huge difference in my life”
With the country becoming more westernized one of the traditions that is gradually fading is that of
the Bindi. Once considered as a symbol of beauty,power and elegance of every Hindu woman today
is only an occasional accessory. Aroona Bhat talks on why she found her strength and identity in a
Bindi and her journey through it. She also addresses the issue of social inclusiveness in the Indian
Society to anyone who embraces a new style and encourages people to have their own.
Aroona is a co-founder at Wild Elephants Motion Pictures, a film and content production house.
Their film Lapachhapi won 22 international Awards ,including Humanitarian Award for conveying a
strong message against Female Foeticide. She holds a record in the Limca Book of Records for her
distinctive ability of creating Bindis and for using the forehead as a canvas. She has never repeated a
design to date.This unique art form, lead the way to her co founding bookmybindi.com with the
hope of reviving this tradition, distinctive to our culture .Aroona holds a diploma in PR and Mass
Communication from the Xavier Institute of Communication, is a trained voice over artist and a self-
taught image consultant and has founded A Whole New Leaf- an image Consultancy and
Management Company. She is recognized as ‘A woman of substance’ by the SMILE
foundation,Mumbai.
