In this video, I provide a historical overview of Indian policy in Canada before I share my analysis of the federal government's federal legislative agenda and the potential risks to First Nation rights. This presentation is a work in progress and represents a culmination of my research and analysis conducted on government policy over the last 20 years.
Here is an article I wrote about the Assembly of First Nation's role in pushing this federal legislative framework:

There are literally thousands of Indigenous peoples and settler allies who have been working hard to resist Canada's colonial policies and have offered their ongoing advice, insight and analysis about government laws and policies from before the 1969 White Paper, through the Harper era and into the Trudeau era. There are far too many to name, but they include:
My brothers and sisters, uncles, aunts;
Hundreds of First Nations elders;
Hundreds of First Nation chiefs and councillors;
Thousands of First Nation community members;
Numerous First Nation organizations;
Many Indigenous scholars and academics;
And so many others including:
Taiaiake Alfred
Ellen Gabriel
Bev Jacobs
Sylvia McAdam
Tanya Kappo
Cindy Blackstock
Sharon Venne
Marie Battiste
Janice Makokis
Mary Ellen Turpel
Sharon McIvor
Niigaan Sinclair
Willie Littlechild
Gilbert Cheechoo
Cheryl Maloney
Erika Violet Lee
Art Manuel (RIP)
Kanahaus Manuel
Rachel Snow
Russ Diabo
Gordon Peters
Joyce Green
Gina Starblanket
Doug Cuthand
Idle No More
Coalition Against Racism
and so many more.
We are all in this resistance together and we share, exchange and support one another in our advocacy. Sometimes our analysis is the same and at other times we differ in our opinions, but that is ok. That is the nature of sovereign individuals and Nations doing our best to resist ongoing attempts to diminish the rights and status of our Nations.
There are also many individuals who challenge specific parts of Canada's agenda - like Cindy Blackstock's advocacy for children in care, Sharon McIvor on sex discrimination in the Indian Act or Maggie Cywink for families or murdered and missing. We need to lift up and celebrate our native warriors and share their info and analysis.
The most important point is to share our information and analysis far and wide so we can talk about it and strategize on the best ways to protect our Nations.
Please note: Nothing in this podcast/video advocates for violence on Indigenous territories.
