Question 1: Discuss mixed models of emotional intelligence.
Answer: Mixed models of emotional intelligence incorporate elements from various theories and
perspectives on emotional intelligence (EI) to provide a more comprehensive understanding of this
complex construct. These models recognize that EI is not a one-dimensional concept but rather a
multifaceted skill that involves the recognition, understanding, regulation, and utilization of emotions
in oneself and others. Here, we will discuss some of the prominent mixed models of emotional
intelligence.
1. **Mayer and Salovey's Four-Branch Model**: Developed by Peter Salovey and John Mayer, this
model divides emotional intelligence into four branches:
a. **Perceiving Emotions**: Recognizing emotions in oneself and others, often through facial
expressions, body language, or tone of voice.
b. **Facilitating Thought**: Using emotions to promote cognitive processes, such as problem-
solving and decision-making.
c. **Understanding Emotions**: Comprehending complex emotions and their transitions, helping

d. **Managing Emotions**: Regulating one's own emotions and assisting others in managing

2. **Bar-On's Model of Emotional-Social Intelligence (ESI)**: Reuven Bar-On's model takes a broader
perspective on EI, encompassing intrapersonal and interpersonal domains as well as adaptability and
stress management. It includes five composite scales:a. **Intrapersonal**: Self-awareness, self-regard, and self-actualization.
b. **Interpersonal**: Interpersonal relationships, empathy, and social responsibility.
c. **Stress Management**: Stress tolerance and impulse control.
d. **Adaptability**: Reality testing and flexibility.
e. **General Mood**: Happiness and optimism.
3. **Goleman's Mixed Model of EI**: Daniel Goleman's model combines emotional competencies
with personal and social competencies. It consists of five components:
a. **Self-Awareness**: Recognizing one's emotions and their impact.
b. **Self-Regulation**: Managing and controlling emotional reactions.
c. **Motivation**: Harnessing emotions to achieve goals.
d. **Empathy**: Recognizing and understanding others' emotions.
e. **Social Skills**: Managing relationships effectively.
4. **Petrides and Furnham's Trait Emotional Intelligence Model**: This model argues that emotional
intelligence can be conceptualized as a set of emotional traits. It identifies 15 factors or facets,
including emotion perception, emotion expression, and emotion management.
Mixed models of emotional intelligence acknowledge that EI is not limited to a single set of abilities
or traits. Instead, they consider that EI encompasses various aspects of emotional functioning, and

or more of these strategies to deal with some aspects in your life. Write about it mentioning the
issue, strategy used, duration or time period of the use of strategies, difficulties faced during the
use of strategies, outcome, and your overall experience of using the strategies to develop self-
control.
