DEEP DIVE: Did BJP win West Bengal by using SIR to “disenfranchise” TMC voters?

Описание: After the BJP swept West Bengal assembly elections, TMC led by Mamata Banerjee, and other opposition parties alleged that the elections were rigged.

They also accused the BJP of winning Bengal by removing TMC voters from the list, through the SIR process.

But when you look at the numbers, they tells a different story.

Out of almost 91 lakh deleted names through the SIR exercise, even if all 27 lakh “pending voters” supported the TMC, it would only change results in about 26 seats. Even then, BJP would still win around 181 seats — well above the majority mark of 148.

The voter deletion issue dominated the poll discourse, but data shows it wasn’t the reason behind the BJP’s massive victory.
