HUSTLE NIDORINO in OU: FATHER/SON DUO

Описание: Happy Father's Day everyone! In honor of the celebration, I brought the ultimate OU heat: the father and son duo of Nidoking and Nidorino. (Incoming TED Talk from my Reddit post.)

Nidorino is an interesting Pokémon: unlike his father, he has access to Hustle, giving a 50% attack boost with a 20% accuracy decrease. With Hustle, he has an effective 400 attack stat, which is pretty powerful since it’s not choice locked. Plus, the accuracy loss can be offset by Hone Claws, and this further boosts its attack. It can run defensive bulk too, since it gets priority in Sucker Punch. Head Smash, although very inaccurate, smashes through everything, and Poison Jab gives it reliable STAB with a high poison chance.

Nidoking is a hood classic. Once an OU monster, the king still packs a punch with Sheer Force Life Orb boosted Sludge Wave's, Earth Power's, Ice Beam's, and Flamethrower's. I chose Flamethrower over Thunderbolt because I had Power Whip on Ferrothorn, and Sludge Wave + Earth Power hits most the common Waters anyway (*cough* Tapu Fini cough Toxapex).

The team also features Emvee's Corviknight, SpDef Ferrothorn, Air Balloon Eruption Heatran, and WishPort Clefable:

Corviknight was chosen as a Ground immunity, for Defog access, longevity with Roost, and pivoting with U-turn. I didn’t want another ground type because of Nidoking, but Lando-T could also fill this spot pretty well.

SpDef Ferrothorn was picked for it’s typing, chip damage with Rocky Helmet + Iron Barbs, and utility in Knock Off, Leech Seed, and Spikes. With PhyDef Corviknight and PhyDef Clefable, I figured SpDef would work better on this one.

Air Balloon Heatran was chosen as another temporary Ground immunity, and as a strong arm since Eruption destroys most the metagame.

WishPort Clefable was chosen to give Nidorino and Nidoking some longevity, and a pivot for the two so they don’t have to worry about the switchin. K-Slowbro could work in this slot as well, since FuturePort would really limit your opponents choices in who could stay on the field.

This team isn’t supposed to be taken super duper seriously. It’s supposed to be a fun team that utilizes a never seen ‘mon and exposes opponents not prepared for it. That was the greatest strength of Nidorino: people had no clue what it would do, and it allowed me to setup in a lot of player’s faces and kill a lot of Sucker Punch weak ‘mons who weren’t ready for a, well, sucker punch. Honestly though, the ‘mon isn’t terrible. It may not be the most reliable or even strongest, but it hits like a damn truck and people aren’t ready for it. And it’s super satisfying getting so much value out of Hone Claws.
