This is the second part of the video in which I interviewed Naseem Akhter, a local artist of the Gojri language. Despite that she is differently abled, she is singing, learning and sharing her artistic skills with the local people, thus becoming a symbol of resilience for women all across the globe.
In this video, she played a beautiful harmonium in a local way (Dhun) and sang the Gojri Poetry of Khuda Baksh Zaar, a renowned Gojri Poet from the Dedhad clan of Muslim Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir.
In the Poetry of Khuda Baksh Zaar, one can find various themes ranging from Divine love, pain, separations, migrations, longings, and cultural aspects of Muslim Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir. These themes not only make the poetry of Khuda Baksh Zaar famous among the local artists and people but also change the landscape of Gojri poetry, where Khuda Baksh Zaar uses local idioms and phrases.
Gojri Artists like Naseem Akhter are true inspiration who faces adversities by showing their resilience and will.
I hope you will enjoy this video, which I recorded while I was conducting my formal PhD fieldwork in February 2025 in the Pīr Panjāl region of Jammu and Kashmir.
