Kainchi Dham, the divine abode of the revered saint Neem Karoli Baba (Neeb Karori), stands as one of the most hallowed destinations in Nainital, Uttarakhand. Situated in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Kainchi Dham holds immense significance not only within India but also on the global spiritual landscape. Located approximately twenty kilometers away from Nainital, this Ashram was founded by the renowned saint, Neem Karoli Baba, and is often referred to as the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram.
Neem Karoli Baba was a devoted follower of Lord Hanuman, and through his intense devotion and penance, he acquired numerous miraculous powers. During his lifetime, Neem Karoli Baba established two ashrams—one in Vrindavan and the other in Kainchi Dham.
Legend has it that in 1962, Neem Karoli Baba arrived at Kainchi Dham accompanied by his friend Poornanand. In 1964, he initiated the construction of a Hanuman temple at this location, gradually transforming it into a place of pilgrimage for his devotees.
The ashram is nestled between two hills, which intersect like scissors, giving rise to its name, Kainchi Dham. Every year, on the 15th of June, Kainchi Dham Establishment Day is celebrated with grand festivities—a tradition initiated by Neem Karoli Baba that continues to this day. A significant fair is held to commemorate this occasion.
Neem Karoli Baba performed numerous miracles during his lifetime, and even after his passing, his devotees have reported experiencing extraordinary events in their lives. Kainchi Dham is renowned for the belief that no devotee departs empty-handed from this sacred place. As a result, people from India and around the world hold deep faith in Neem Karoli Baba and make pilgrimages to Kainchi Dham to seek his blessings.
