Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan passes away: Legacy of the Fifth Caliph of Umayyad Caliphate.
On October 09 705 CE, the 5th Umayyad monarch Abdul Malik bin Marwan died in Damascus, Syria. He was the son of Marwan bin al-Hakam.
Abdul Malik bin Marwan is very famous for his administrative, social, and economic reforms. It's only him who re-established the Umayyad dynasty after the second Fitnah.
Abdul Malik introduced the new Arabic or Muslim coin in Islamic history. In the days of the Prophet and Abu Bakr, the Roman and Persian currencies were used in the Islamic world. He issued purely Muslim coinage of gold, silver, and copper.
He also reformed the art of Arabic writing. He reorganized and strengthened governmental administration and, throughout the empire, adopted Arabic as the language of administration. One of his governors, Hajjaj bin Yusuf, introduced vowel marks into Arabic script.
The famous Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem was also built by Abdul Malik bin Marwan in around 692 CE. He died after a glorious reign of 20 years. He is also known as the second founder of the Umayyad dynasty.
