Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com.Today we're test-driving the 805 Overdrive, by Seymour Duncan. Unlike almost every overdrive pedal on the market, the 805 is designed specifically to push a naturally-distorted amp into the danger zone. The Drive range of the 805 is huge, with enough tube-like character to dirty up a clean amp, but the gain structure fuses with your amp's gain to deliver over-the-top saturated gain that will leave the rest of your pedals in the dust. After setting the Drive knob just like you like it, the 805 takes the tone to another level by offering a trio of mini knobs that utilize a three-band active EQ. Unlike most EQ circuits, this one works by setting each band flat with the knob positioned at noon, offering a dramatic boost or cut at each end of the knob. Each EQ control alters the sound drastically, and it keeps the action fresh at any position. Rhythm players will love how the Bass and Mids control can be cranked to beef up a thin-sounding pickup set, while lead players will love the ability to use the EQ to slice through any mix like a hot scalpel.
