While Saturn's main ring system is well-known and prominently featured in images and discussions about the planet, there's another, lesser-known ring system that surrounds Saturn. This ring system is called the Phoebe ring, named after one of Saturn's moons, Phoebe.
The Phoebe ring was discovered in 2009 through observations made by the Hubble Telescope. Astronomers noticed a faint, diffuse ring system surrounding the planet at a much greater distance, extending to approximately 26 million kilometers.
It is believed that material ejected from impacts with Phoebe's surface contributes to the formation of the Phoebe ring. Over time, these particles spread out along Phoebe's orbit, forming a diffuse ring of icy and rocky debris.
