Transboundary Diseases are defined as highly contagious and transmissible epidemic diseases which have the capability for rapid spread to new areas and regions regardless of national borders and have serious socio-economic and public health consequences. Within the Caribbean region, there are concerns for emerging pests and diseases which have the potential of impacting food and nutrition security goals, economic development, trade and the ecology of countries. These include African Swine Fever (ASF), Fusarium oxysporum f. cubense Tropical Race 4 (TR4), and Lethal Yellowing of Coconuts and the Giant African Snail.
As such, this webinar was hosted as a space for experts to provide an overview on these pests and diseases in the following topics:
Introduction to Transboundary Diseases
Threats to the Region
For each pest/disease:
• Introduction to the Disease
• Global and Regional Status
• Risks and Threats to the Region
• Mitigation to Prevent Further Spread
