In the USA, incidents involving the so-called Kia Boys are once again being addressed: groups of teenage thieves who steal Kia and Hyundai vehicles. In several cases, accidents occurred where the thieves fled the scene after the crash, leaving the driver or victims behind. These events have sparked legal disputes and pressure on car manufacturers.
Houston, November 2025: Police chased a stolen yellow Kia. After a PIT maneuver, the car crashed into another vehicle. Three juveniles inside escaped, the driver was apprehended.
Cleveland, August 2023: A 17-year-old member of the “Kia Boys” caused a fatal accident. In 2024, the court sentenced him to 16 years in prison and a lifetime driving ban.
Ohio, July 2025: The family of a four-year-old boy who died in an accident involving a stolen Kia filed a lawsuit against the car manufacturer. They claim that insufficient vehicle security enabled the theft.
In general: “Kia Challenge” – a viral trend on TikTok since 2022 – taught teenagers to steal Kia/Hyundai cars made between 2011–2021 due to the lack of immobilizers.
