DIY Build Xcarve/Shapeoko based machine
Dewalt Router
Filmed on a Yi4k+ Camera using timelapse.
We were commissioned to make an engraved plate sign for a friend of ours, they they wanted something to gift as a present.
The brief we were given was very simple...
1 - The sign was to be made from copper
2 - Engraved only, no discolouration
3 - A4 in size.
We hadn't worked with metal on the CNC before and we understood that copper can be quite "grabby" when being worked so it was a bit of an unknown. We do love to push the boundaries though which is why we took the job on. The machine made a horrendous amount of noise, it didn't sound as though it was very happy but it ate through the copper and it turned out pretty well I think.
Once the machining had been completed we roughed up the internal faces and you can see how it finished up.
