At exactly 04:30 a.m., January 8, 2026, local time,
three UJ-26 Bober drones were pushed out from the technical bay of a disguised fishing vessel operating off Zmiinyi Island.
With a fuselage 11.8 feet (3.6 meters) long, coated in radar-absorbent paint, and a 110-lb (50-kg) shaped-charge warhead in the nose, it was born to punch through layers of commercial-grade steel hull and detonate from the inside.
The target was Elbus — a large MR-class oil tanker flying the Russian flag, carrying more than 16,000 tons of diesel fuel.
For Russia, it was a key asset in their logistical chain. For Ukraine, it was nothing less than a mobile explosive barrel.
And Ukraine had absolutely no reason to ignore such a fat target — a New Year’s fireworks display at sea, prepared as a winter gift for Putin, was already primed.
