Описание: Zealous in his support of the Revolution. Huddy served for a time in the State Troops and also in other militia companies, including at the Battle of Germantown. He led a group of mounted militiamen at the Battle of Monmouth. In 1780 Huddy joined the Retaliators, a vigilante group that practiced eye-for-an-eye justice against Loyalists and suspected Loyalists. He was captured in an attack on my tavern but escaped, although wounded. In 1782, Huddy was in command of the Block House at Toms River when it was attacked and he was again captured. This time his Loyalist captors hanged him in retaliation for the murder of a Loyalist two weeks earlier. The hanging sparked a diplomatic bonfire when Washington threatened to hang a captured British officer, Charles Asgill, if Huddy's executioner was not turned over to him.
