Rebel Italian vintners, unwilling to adhere to the Chianti regulations, planted Cabernet grapes in Tuscany and blended them into the dominating Sangiovese fruits.
Today Super Tuscans are Tuscan grown wine that blends some combination of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and sometimes Cabernet Franc.
