Amidst concerns over worker safety, the Indian government has asked all quick commerce platforms to abandon their controversial "10-minute delivery" promise.This decision comes after a nationwide strike by delivery workers protesting hazardous working conditions, and following discussions between the Union Labour Ministry and company officials. Major companies like Zomato, Blinkit, and Zepto, which deliver food, groceries, electronics, and household goods to urban customers, participated in these discussions. The number of workers in this sector is projected to increase from 7.7 million in 2021 to 23.5 million by 2030. Despite working for more than 12 hours a day, their monthly income is only around Rs. 20,000. This move is expected to alleviate the stress and pressure on these workers, who often drive recklessly and violate traffic rules to meet deadlines, fearing penalties or fewer orders if they fail to deliver on time.
