Before taking your first steps in the Freedom Leg (hands-free crutch), do this standing check. It confirms the brace is fitted correctly and your foot clears the ground.
How to stand up the first time Push off a table or chair, hold on, and lift your other foot off the ground. Balance and feel the pivot point.
What correct weight transfer feels like You should feel tension on the back of the thigh and on the front of the shin. This confirms body weight is loading into the thigh — not the foot or ankle.
Boot and splint clearance Check that your post-op boot, splint, or cast clears the ground completely. Your foot should not be bearing any weight on the floor. If it is, return to video 3 and adjust the brace angle until your hips level out and your foot hangs freely.
If the standing check feels right — you're ready for first steps.
