It has taken me way too long to make another cover. And to get Gumi. Short reasons why for both: vocaloid is one of those things that my brain is crazy for in both a good and bad way and recently the bad has been dominating because of negative interactions with people in the fandom (primarily on Tumblr and VocaDB, which is sad because they’re my primary VocaSites). Also writing has become my newest hobby.

Good news: I’ve found a good space on discord for Vocaloid talk! I even commissioned one of the people there (Shoukiko) to mix it and ahhh she did such a good job! Check them out please! They made a Koharu Rikka cover of this song and it slaps!

Speaking of which, never expected my first MARETU cover to be this one! I was thinking maybe “Even though I loved you” but turns out I like talking about Vocaloid in a meta aspect. Makes sense, Daibaku Hashin is one of my favourite producers and Unhappy Refrain by wowaka is one of my favourite of his songs. And Better off Worse by Circus pulled me back into his discography. I tried to keep that interpretation in mind when making lyrics - I wanted it to be seen as both a song about domestic abuse and also a song about demanding a producer to stagnate growth. I hope it came across, I’m still very new when it comes to lyric writing. But this one came easier than last time!

And MARETU, I heavily doubt you’ll see this, but thank you. Whether this is your last vocaloid song or not, or even your last song, I hope you continue to have a fruitful life.
