Chief Judge Sara Grewing, Judge Maria Mitchell, and Judge Nicole Starr (2nd Judicial Circuit, MN) discuss their work in The Women's Group, a program started for incarcerated women, newly expanded to reach more women involved with the legal system.
The judges started The Women's Group in Ramsey County to create a space for support and growth, recognizing the challenges faced specifically by women who have been involved with the legal system. As Judge Starr shares, “We’re the only people in these women’s lives right now who are constantly saying, ‘You are doing great! This is so hard, and I am really impressed.’” The acknowledgment of the reality of hard situations, honest feedback, and true appreciation are some of the many reasons this project is so impactful for many women in the community.
