The thyroid is an endocrine gland in the neck.
0:21 Cancer of the thyroid is of 4 types:
Papillary carcinoma is the most common cancer that affects 80-85% of people.
Follicular carcinoma is the second most common, and it can spread through blood and affect other organs.
Medullary carcinoma – It runs in families.
Anaplastic carcinoma is an aggressive form of cancer with symptoms like breathing and swallowing difficulty. It can also spread to other parts.
1:34 Treatment Modalities:
Papillary and follicular carcinoma fall under the well-differentiated category and have a high cure rate. Surgery followed by radioactive iodine is usually recommended.
For medullary carcinoma, surgery is usually advised.
For anaplastic carcinoma, chemotherapy and radiation are given. Some may need surgery.
