We uprooted three Chinese juniper trees earlier in the summer but despite our best efforts, they didn’t survive. But no worries because we can salvage the wood for a different project!!
Watch along as we start the process of creating a tanuki, or phoenix graft, where a live plant is grafted onto deadwood to create a finished piece that resembles an old, craggy tree.
We’ll be able to create stunning Jin and Shari after we carve these pieces and preserve them with lime sulphur or Jin seal.
It’s a slow process but you have to start somewhere!!
