Density matrices are the language of quantum states when information is missing. In this short explainer, we compare pure state vectors with mixed states, see why a pure-state outer product becomes a probability-weighted sum for uncertain preparations, and use Tr(rho squared) as a simple purity meter.
You will see the Bloch sphere idea: pure qubit states live on the surface, while mixed states live inside the ball. We also connect the trace rule expected A equals Tr(rho A) to measurement predictions, decoherence, thermal states, quantum noise, and real quantum computing.
