Every person at Cerner has an almost infinite number of tasks they could perform for their job. While time management techniques are mostly only taught to those who have become managers, anyone could benefit from a more effective, efficient use of their time. If you have more asks landing on your desk than you have the capacity to satisfy, this talk is for you.
As a Software Architect, I know what it means to balance the desire to spend every hour reading, designing and writing code, with the desire to see your projects and team succeed in fulfilling their responsibilities. But this is nothing special to software, all of us are trying to balance pouring ourselves into what we love with getting done what we need to, in order to succeed as an individual, as a team, or as a company. My talk aims to give you confidence that you're doing both well, and take away any sense of being overwhelmed.
I will share methods and strategies that I have learned and employed to enormous benefit. Several of these I have shared with peers and seen them benefit, as well. I will have suggestions for the most novice time manager to the more seasoned productivity nut. We'll visit TODO lists, prioritization, meetings, distractions, as well as a summary of a more involved methodology.
About the Speaker:
Dane is a Lead Architect for the data processing portion of the Millennium+ Platform. He's been at Cerner 7 years, mostly as a Software Engineer. He greatly enjoys exploring things that are new [to him]. Some ongoing explorations are into functional programming, Clojure, and Kanban. He is fascinated by the way engineering teams work and eagerly searches for ways to change those norms.
This talk was given at DevCon, Cerner's internal engineering conference. Check us out at http://engineering.cerner.com/
