These homemade breadsticks are soft, fluffy, buttery, and taste just like the restaurant version—maybe even better. Made with simple pantry ingredients and ready in under 2 hours, this is the perfect side dish for pasta night or soup season.
Ingredients
1 cup warm water (110°F)
2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
2 tbsp granulated sugar
3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (plus more for brushing)
1½ tsp salt
3 to 3½ cups all-purpose flour
Garlic Butter Topping
3 tbsp melted butter
½ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp salt
Instructions
Activate the yeast
In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Make the dough
Stir in melted butter, salt, and 3 cups of flour. Mix until dough forms. Add more flour if needed.
Knead
Knead by hand or mixer for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First rise
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours until doubled.
Shape the breadsticks
Divide dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each into a 7–8 inch rope.
Second rise
Place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and rise 30 minutes.
Bake
Bake at 400°F (205°C) for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden.
Finish
Brush immediately with garlic butter topping. Serve warm.
