Описание: On average, Australians spend close to $300 a week individually on food, this includes groceries and eating out. This means in a year, your food costs could add up to $15k per person.

So in this video, I’m going to share with you 11 ways to save money on groceries and dining out.

1. My first tip is to use online deal sites like Groupon and Scoopon. Both these sites offer a variety of discounts at different restaurants and cafes across Australia. I’m talking high tea at the Swissotel Sydney, tapas at Tapavino and even fine dining at Nel.

2. My 2nd tip for dining out is to use the Liven app. I use this app all the time and love it. If you haven’t heard of Liven before, it’s a digital wallet that lets you earn cash back at restaurants that have partnered with Liven.

3. So this tip will actually cost your money upfront and that is the entertainment book. The Entertainment book used to be a physical book filled with vouchers that provided a discount but has now gone completely digital with an app. The actual discount will vary depending on the restaurant but if you dine out or buy takeaway regularly, you should be able to save more than the $70 that you’ll need to pay for the 1 year membership.

4. Tip number 4 is to eat at the right time. At most fine dining places, the lunch menu will be cheaper than the dinner menu and some of them offer a pre theatre menu at around 5:30pm that has less dishes but it’s also less expensive.

5. Another way to save money when dining out is to use restaurant booking websites such as The Fork, Quandoo and Opentable. Most of these websites have a loyalty system that allows you to redeem points for a discount at participating restaurants.

For example, with The Fork - once you earn 1000 points you can redeem it for a $20 discount or you can save up for 2000 points and that will get you a $50 discount.

6. And my final tip when it comes to dining out is to provide your birthday when you’re signing up to a restaurant’s newsletter. Often they will give you an exclusive promotion or discount when it’s close to your birthday in the hopes of enticing you to dine with them.

Also when you’re making a reservation, it doesn’t hurt to let the restaurant know that you’re celebrating your birthday in the comments section because you might get a freebie!

7. Moving on to groceries, one way to save money is to use discounted eGift cards. The discount offered will also vary depending on your provider, but for the supermarkets it usually 3%. I know 3% might not sound like much but over time it will add up and every dollar saved is a dollar that can be invested.

8. This is a pretty well known tip - loyalty programs. Both Coles and Woolworths have loyalty programs that you can join for free and each time you shop you will earn points. Coles is part of Flybuys and Woolies has Everyday Rewards.

Once you’ve gathered up enough points, you can redeem it and get money off your next grocery shop.

9. Tip number 9 is to make a grocery list and to stick to it. I know this sounds very obvious but I’ve personally noticed a difference when I shop with a shopping list. Instead of browsing each aisle and picking up stuff I don’t actually need, I go down my list, buy what I need, pay and leave.

10. Another way to save money on your groceries is to plan your meals. Meal planning will help you reduce your food waste which means you save money. Instead of buying too many ingredients or items you don’t need, you purchase exactly what’s needed.

11. The last way to save money on food, is shopping for groceries at the right time. See a lot of grocery stores will mark down perishable items during the 4-6pm period, these discounts can be quite significant especially for more expensive items such as meat.
