ABOUT THE COMPANY
Cullbergbaletten has performed all over the world and is an important element in the international presentation of Swedish culture. The company also engages in national outreach through its tours within Sweden. The company collaborates with a variety of national and international choreographers and performing artists who create works for large as well as small stages. Cullbergbaletten’s activities encompass projects and productions including site specific appearances and collaboration with dance training programs. Cullbergbaletten was founded by Birgit Cullberg in 1967 under the auspices of Riksteatern. The company currently has 16 dancers from nearly as many countries. Since its inception, the stage personalities and technical strength of its dancers have been Cullbergbaletten’s defining characteristics. Cullbergbaletten is part of Riksteatern, Sweden’s National Touring Theatre. Gabriel Smeets is the artistic director of the company.
The Return of The Modern Dance by Trajal Harrell
ABOUT THE CHOREOGRAPHER
Trajal Harrell who works at the interface between contemporary dance and the foundations of voguing tours around the world and several of his works have been selected as best dance works by Time Out New York. Harrell's works have been invited to international festivals and have been presented on several places in USA. Trajal Harrell is perhaps best known for a series of work titled Twenty Looks or Paris is Burning at the Judson Church which re-imagine a meeting between early postmodern dance and the voguing dance tradition and created in seven series. The Return of The Modern Dance is his first work for Cullbergbaletten.
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
American Trajal Harell has created a new piece for six male dancers. In the history of dance the communication between dancer and audience has fascinated choreographers, dance makers and dancers. What is defining the communication between the one who dances and the one who watches?

ABOUT THE CHOREOGRAPHER
Cristian Duarte is a dancer and choreographer based in São Paulo, Brazil. He graduated from PARTS in Brusssels under direction of Anne Teresa De Keersmaker in 2002. In 2013 and 2015 Cristian Duarte was invited as a choreographer and teacher at DOCH in Stockholm.
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
Brazilian choreographer Cristian Duarte creates his first work for Cullbergbaletten to new music on theremin and synthesizers by Brazilian composer and musician Tom Monteiro. The starting point for the solo is the idea of an expedition into the depths of a dancer’s sensory archives. In his work, Cristian Duarte has previously focused on the dancers' training history and movements they have created in previous works. He has worked specifically with the idea of mashup between the former and new works, between what is passed and what is to come, and how this coexistence affects movement choices of the dancers and choreography.
