Introducing the newest and most exciting product from the audio pro’s at Sennheiser, The all new Sennheiser Urbanite. What seems like Sennheiser’s second take at “lifestyle” headphone is the Sennheiser Urbanite. The URBANITE follows on the heels of the release of the Momentum, Sennheisers first take at bassy headphones with a bit of style and flare. While BOTH of these headphones are 100% worth while and a GREAT choice for most listeners, one might be better for you than the other. Let’s break it down and find which of these 2 awesome headphones may be right for you.
Design/Build Quality
The headphone’s design is somewhat reminiscent of the momentum, but with a much more box like appearance. With hard lines and right angles, it reminds me of a piece of modern architecture when set against the backdrop of an urban skyline. This is not a bad thing as the Momentum on-ear was designed brilliantly. However, unlike the Momentum on-ear, the Urbanite is chunkier but folds into a more compact shape. This does introduce an extra point of friction, Sennheiser has built these headphones rock solid with all metal hinges, so you can count on them lasting for a good while and not breaking like beats. The headband is extremely flexible and durable, similar to that of the Sol Republic headband.
Passive noise isolation is a strong suit among all Sennheiser headphones. As for the comfort, both Momentum on-ear, and Urbanite are extremely comfortable. Unlike the Momentum on-ear which features alcantara earpads, the Sennheiser Urbanite has velour earpads, which are about equally as comfortable and offer hours of wear time with out ear fatigue or discomfort.
Accessories
Unfortunately, the Urbanite doesn’t come with as big of an accessories bundle as the momentum on-ear. It comes with a single, flat cable that has a IOS remote and a proprietary 3.5mm locking connector. It also comes with a soft carrying bag. The momentum on-ear came with 2 cables and 2 carrying cases as well as a quarter inch adapter.
Sound
As for the sound, it’s night and day compared to the Momentum on-ears. While the bass is very strong and impactful, the Urbanites have a warmer sound compared to the Momentum on-ears, which has a very aggressive V-shaped sound signature, which means the lows and highs are the emphasized parts of the sound. With the Urbanites you get a more warmer and relaxed sound, closer to the Momentum over-ears but with a good amount more bass than the Momentum.
If you’re someone looking for a truly booming bass that you can feel for genres like House, Rap and anything with lots of bass, you’ll enjoy both of these headphones, but perhaps prefer the Urbanite. Sennheiser has told us they were intentionally going after those seeking loads of bass with this newest release.
