The year was 1066 — King Harold II had just defeated a Viking invasion in the north when he was forced to march south to face William, Duke of Normandy. On October 14th, the two armies met near Hastings in a brutal, day-long battle that would reshape England’s future.
Harold’s Saxon shield wall held strong until William’s Norman cavalry and archers broke their line. Harold fell in battle, and William became William the Conqueror, the first Norman King of England.
At this incredible reenactment in Battle Abbey, East Sussex, hundreds of passionate reenactors recreate the sights and sounds of that legendary day — the thunder of horses, the clash of swords, and the determination of two armies fighting for the English crown.
