Is all art political? Panelists discuss the relationship between human rights and art -- including the contentious question of whether artists inherently constitute human rights defenders. Is art political regardless of the artist’s intentions? Or does the ‘political’ artist choose to elevate the voices of the unheard? Does all art speak truth to power, and what support do artists need when power comes knocking?
Ole Reitov (founder of Freemuse, UNESCO Expert Facility member on 2005 Convention on protection/freedom of cultural expression, Copenhagen) chairs this panel discussion featuring Hossam Fazulla (researcher and filmmaker, London/Cairo ), Alfons Karabuda (composer and president of the International Music Council, Stockholm), Nkosilathi Emmanuel Moyo (human rights activist, Kwekwe), Kianoush Ramezani (United Sketches, Helsinki/Paris) and Sara Whyatt (UNESCO Expert Facility member on 2005 Convention on protection/freedom of cultural expression, London).
