Описание: The country edged closer to having in place its first supreme court after the high court dismissed a case filed by women rights lobby groups challenging the composition of its bench, based on the constitutional gender ratio requirement. A three - judge bench consisting of justices John Mwera, Mohammed Warsame and Philomena Mwilu, sitting as a constitutional court, dismissed the suit filed by the six women organizations on the grounds that the judicial service commission was not in breach of the constitution when it named the five judges to the supreme court, since the state and parliament were yet to enact legislation to actualize the constitutional principle on gender parity. And as Sheila Sendeyo reports, the five judges can now be sworn in, and together with the chief justice and his deputy, make up the Supreme Court bench, the country's highest court.
