This video continues the series of learning the Afro-Brazilian dance called the Maculelê (Mak-oo-lay-lay). In this video we learn the "Box Step" footwork and quickly review "The Call" and Step 1.
This dance was taught to me by Anthony DeQuattro at a Summer Course on World Drumming and Dance. I don't claim to be an authority on the subject, but have been intrigued by both the Maculelê's rich history and exciting movements ever since I learned it. Future videos will teach further steps and incorporate some of the "clashes" traditionally done with sticks or machetes.
