On Wednesday, Feb. 11, the South Carolina Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Alex Murdaugh’s double murder appeal. The disbarred attorney is serving two life sentences for the 2023 killings of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, but he continues to maintain his innocence and is asking the court to overturn his convictions.
His legal team is focusing on two key arguments. They say former Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill improperly influenced jurors during the trial, and they argue the judge allowed too much testimony about Murdaugh’s financial crimes as motive, evidence the defense says unfairly prejudiced the jury.
