Kesteloot Enterprises documented a few food plots in our area to show the process and benefits of these fields for wildlife environments'! Covering Sorghum Milo, Corn, and a mixed field in this video for reference. Food plots are so incredibly helpful for wildlife in the harsh uncharted winters along with any other weather obstacles. These plots provide food, shelter, and a safe habitat to flourish unbothered by people for the majority of the season. With a little bit of work and investment, you can have a food plot of your own. Part of making this video was to show others who may be considering a food plot or those who just do not fully understand the process. These food plots can be done with a lot of hand tools or with equipment and can be small or larger fields. It is all about the time and effort put into these plots that make them turn out so well. If you have ever considered starting up a food plot of your own we hope this video helps you understand the process better. Please like and share this process with friends!
We recorded 3 different fields to show the growth and turnouts!
Field 1 mixed w/Milo in a corner, is the first field shown in the video. This is the first field we planted and since it was the first, the pheasants came in and ate the corn seeds away in the corner before they had time to grow. We ended up planting some Milo less than a month later to fill in that plot and utilize the land we had. There were a lot of pheasants in that lot, along with deer, raccoons, and even beavers. Since this food plot was by a creek, beavers came in and started taking corn stocks for their dam and clearing small bits of the plot. They started late enough in the year that it did not affect the plot too poorly and we still have a good amount of ears remaining! This was a great plot that had some hiccups but turned out to work well. The corn feed mixed with the corner of Milo for coverage while being next to a creek turned into a very nice combination for wildlife in that area.
Field 2 Milo, is the second plot we worked on. Planting strictly Milo in the spring and spraying for weeds. You can see the height of this plant and the coverage it provides. We only sprayed this field one time with some round-up, and it helped delay the grass and weeds so the Milo could flourish. The grass and brush came up later in the summer creating a beautiful environment for pheasants, partridge, ground squirrels, and other small animals.
Field 3 Corn, was our plot with strictly corn planted. We sprayed this field for weeds including 2.5 Quarts of Resicore. This food plot did very well tucked and hidden with an overflow ditch neighboring it. This plot was fairly eaten up by November which you can see at the end of the video, which helps us know we have a good amount of deer cycling through that area. We have seen lots of birds come out of there along with many deer.
These plots are helpful for several reasons for different people. Whether you are looking to start one up to get the wildlife fuller in the area or to have a good hunting season, this is a great environmental improvement that our wildlife needs!
This truly helps balance those harsh winters and springs.
With a little bit of work and investment, you can have a food plot of your own.
