2023 SCCA Hoosier Super Tour COTA T3 Race 2 - #81 BMW Spec E46 - Onboard + Broadcast Edit

Описание: Fun race at COTA where I started 3rd after topping the times for the second qualifying session with a 2:32.890. Once again my start was average and I also lost several spots having to check up from contact between Todd Clarke (BMW) and Kenny Russo (Nissan) on the second corner of the first lap. I then got to work making my way up the field again, although not really until the end of a full course yellow that was needed to clear up Todd's stalled car from his earlier incident.

I settled into 5th in class behind the 87 Nissan of Ben Slechta, and the 125 Porsche of Keith Morrow. Both did really well to get up the field at the start, having started further back in the field. Both of these guys had significantly higher top speed on the straights, while I was catching up in the corners. It was fun yet frustrating to go after these guys, as I was regularly bottled up in the esses for instance, looking for a way to get by. I had to be patient as there was an ebb and flow of faster cars in other classes getting by, which delayed me mounting my attack. What's more, I made many mistakes, getting the car slightly out of shape, or missing shifts, fighting these guys. If anything, it was really good training for my race craft.

Eventually I figured out the entry into the esses was probably my best shot and was able to get a good run out of turn 1 a couple times to get by the Porsche. The first time I passed him he got by again on the straight, but I was able to make it stick later on. I then got to work chasing the 3rd placed Nissan where I found I was able to get my best run into turn 11. Again, first time on wasn't quite a success as we actually made slight contact, but the next lap through I went by as Ben spun out putting the power down out of the corner.

All told left pretty happy with the 3rd place, notwithstanding the extremely sloppy nature of my racing and driving. It shouldn't have been this hard to pass given I had 4 seconds on these guys from quali, but that's a lesson to be learned.
