But his resilience was tested again at five, when a devastating car accident left him with a spinal transection at T1-T2. Though doctors expected complete quadriplegia, Lane defied odds. With limited but vital upper body function, he spent months in ICU and rehab, dependent on a ventilator, tracheostomy, and gastrostomy, all while confined to a halo and wheelchair.

Lane emerged from that year transformed, not just physically, but mentally. Over time, he shed the vent, closed the trachea, removed the g-button, and recently completed a spinal fusion for scoliosis. Now a high school junior with a 96.4 GPA, Lane is fully integrated with his peers academically, even excelling in Honors Pre-Calculus, AP U.S. History, and his school’s STEM and engineering program.

Despite missing two semesters, Lane caught up with his class and thrives. He’s a competitive athlete in adaptive track and field, a three-time state finalist in the 100-meter wheelchair race, where he set a personal record this year. He also competes in seated shot put and plans to return for his senior season.

Beyond school, Lane volunteers with 4-H, Addy’s Adventure, and the Rusk County Recreation Association, and helps annually at the Syrup Festival in Henderson, TX. He’s raised animals, planted trees, sung at nursing homes, and served his community with quiet strength.

Lane dreams of becoming an architect and is already applying to colleges like UC Berkeley and LSU, searching for the right fit to match his drive and determination.
