STORYLINE:

Yemen's President Ali Abdallah Salih met with U-S Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld at the Pentagon on Monday.

Salih's government has been working closely with U-S investigators in recent weeks on the trail of suspected terrorists.

And on Sunday (November 25), a western diplomat based in Yemen said Yemeni investigators have found new information that connects the September 11 terror attacks with the 1998 U.S embassy bombings in East Africa and the attack on the U-S-S Cole in Yemen last year.

The diplomat, who spoke on condition of anonymity, refused to divulge details but said the information had been passed on to U.S. authorities.

Cooperation between the two countries since the suicide attack on the USS Cole has been reportedly marred by cultural differences and Yemeni resentment over the large FBI presence during the investigation.

But the latest exchange of information indicates a renewed level of cooperation between American and Yemeni investigators.

President Salih is due to meet Tuesday with U.S. President George W. Bush at the White House.
