What happens when you take the most famous "toy" synth of the 1980s and run it through a chaotic, glitch-heavy Phase Locked Loop? In this video, I explore the unexpected synergy between the Casio VL-1 and the Montreal Assembly Purpll.
This is a fully improvised session. The VL-1 provides the simple, square-wave foundation, while the Purpll handles the heavy lifting—tracking the pitch, adding sub-octaves, and introducing the unpredictable tracking glitches that make this pedal a modern classic. From lo-fi ambient textures to aggressive, distorted drones, we're pushing these two devices to their limits.
