Episode 1: Joining Forces.
An audio documentary on the rise & role of the shed sisterhood in West Limerick.
Over the last few years West Limerick Resources though SICAP programme has witnessed a growth in womens groups, particularly under the auspices of the Womens Shed movement. In an effort to support these groups and understand the needs, we have set about interviewing a number of groups across West Limerick. Groups in Cappagh, Adare, Shanagolden, Newcastle West, Glin shared with us and give us insight into the developments locally, acknowledge those who were pioneering in driving the formation and more importantly we hear first-hand how each group and Shed, in its own way and form has impacted on the lives of the many, many women they support. The spaces are safe, they provide access to information, services, supports for physical activity and mental health wellbeing and social connection. They have lifted the shadow on isolation and loneliness for women across rural West Limerick and they have been critical in a post covid world. This 5 part documentary gives us the opportunity to hear the stories and understand how important these social spaces are.
Funding for this series was secured under HSE Section 39 funding with support from SICAP. The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) is co-funded by the Irish Government, through the Department of Rural and Community Development, and the European Social Fund Plus under the Employment, Inclusion, Skills and Training (EIST) Programme 2021 -2027.
