On Saturday March 1, 2025 we took a chance to do a hike to Mitchell Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness via Brainard Lakes Recreation Area. After passing Brainard Lake we hiked up the snow covered road to the Mitchell Lake Trailhead. It was hard to find firm enough snow to hike on the road. The trail conditions were rough from there on out but it's only one mile up from the Mitchell Lake Trailhead to Mitchell Lake and it was worth the suffering. We hiked the Waldrop Trail to Brainard Lake and hiked the road back from Brainard Lake on the way out. Lots of people out enjoying this beautiful day. 8 miles and 800 feet of elevation gain.
