Join mw as I talk with Lauren Joyner from The Dance Project about her incredible work with Parkinson's dance classes in partnership with Cone Health. Discover how dance can be an accessible, enjoyable exercise for everyone!
Lauren Trollinger Joyner has a BFA in Dance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Lauren has worked with Queen City Jazz Company, Nosi Dance Theater, and helped start and run Blank Slate Dance Company of Durham. She has performed in the North Carolina Dance Festival, North Carolina Dance Alliance, and the Greensboro Fringe Festival. She was privileged to also be a part of the test run of the Broadway Show “The Notebook” the musical in 2009. She also ran the pre-professional dance company at CC & Co. Dance Complex. At CC & Co. she had the honor of working with choreographers such as Teddy Forance and Stacey Tookey. Lauren was honored to perform with the Van Dyke Dance Group in 2017 and 2018 and perform works by the late Jan Van Dyke. From 2014-2024 Lauren served as Dance Projects School Director and from 2015-2024 Lauren served as one of two Executive Directors. In this time Lauren is very proud of her work to start the Parkinsons Dance Class, Dance Residency at the Newcomers School, her work on the annual Dance Marathon, and tireless pursuit to make Dance Project an inclusive environment that honors all individuals desire to experience joy through dance. Lauren is passionate about teaching and has a true love for choreography, jazz, musical theater, and Modern/Contemporary Dance Styles. Lauren is now currently working in a part time administrative capacity at Dance Project as the new Director of Strategic Programs to spend more time with her family and especially her 4 year old son. Lauren's passion for community, inclusion, and dance shine bright and she is honored to give back to such an awesome community.
Dance Project encompasses the NC Dance Festival, a showcase of artists in the field of modern dance from across the state; The School, our community dance studios in the Greensboro Cultural Center; and the Van Dyke Dance Group, which performs and manages the repertory of Jan Van Dyke (1941-2015).

Michele Walker is a physical therapist who specializes in working with people with Parkinson's Disease and senior mobility issues. She has helped many clients to improve their movement in order to be more independent, relying less on family and caregivers, and reducing their risk of falls and injury.
