The sale of cannabis in Thailand now technically requires a doctor's prescription, the latest twist in regulations since the plant was delisted as a narcotic in June 2022. When this episode was recorded, the cannabis bill grinding its way through parliament toughened penalties and included jail terms for growing, selling and importing without a licence, and for marketing and advertising the traditional drug But its most controversial provision was the imposition of fines for recreational smoking, even in one’s own home. This drew condemnation from many, including long-time cannabis legalisation advocate and entrepreneur Chokwan Kitty Chopaka.
