I think this is the first day that the K-37, 493, actually left the yard and ran a bit on the road. It was a light test I think to see how it fired, how much water was consumed and to make sure all the running gear was good to go. Every thing was rebuilt or built new, but one never knows about fit and performance until one gives it a spin.
They locomotive looked fantastic and seemed to perform very well, but did have a bearing on the Engineer's side of the trailer that was running warm. After Reaching Home Ranch and trying to fix it in place, they decided it was best to run it back to the shop. Everything except that one journal seemed to be working fine. For the first time since about 1968 since this locomotive has run, I would say this one problem is pretty minimal and will be worked out with some tweaking.
