(18 Jan 2020) A fire has damaged part of a renowned restaurant in Paris frequented by President Emmanuel Macron.
The blaze that burnt a corner of the La Rotonde was quickly extinguished before dawn on Saturday.
The fire service said the cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
Restaurant staff, however, were quick to point the finger of blame at the yellow vest protest movement.
Manager Gerard Tafanel claimed police had found a yellow vest among the debris.
He added that days earlier, demonstrators shouted "Death to Macron, death to La Rotonde" as they passed the eatery.
Franck Jonet, La Rotonde's head chef, said he could not make accusations without evidence.
But addded he was sure the fire was linked to the president.
'Yellow vest' protesters have been demonstrating against the policies of Macron's government for more than a year.
Macron famously celebrated his victory in the first-round presidential election at La Rotonde in 2017.
That celebration was met with criticism, with some accusing him of acting like he had already won the presidency.
The Paris prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to determine the cause of Saturday's fire.
