How to change the snare wires on your caixa - Snareteppich tauschen Tutorial

Описание: Hi there samba friends! Today we’re showing you how to replace your snare wires:

First, measure the diameter of your caixa and order some snare wires in the right length and with as many spirals as you like. The more spirals, the more white noise you’ll have.

Maybe you can reuse the nylon strings on your old wires, if not, check on our page, we have spares.

Loosen the hardware were the wires are attached.

It is important to place the wires the right way round on the resonance head and make sure they lie in the snarebed. See little indents on the head rest under the tension rim? This is where your new wires will go.
They are the right way round if the litlle metal pieces at the end lie flat on the resonance head. They need to lie flush on the surface so your caixa sounds is even.

Start on the side opposite of the strainer:
Take a piece of nylon string and stick it through both holes of the wire end.
Then thread both ends through the holes on your caixa rim.
Ask a samba friend to give you a hand, it’s much easier that way.

Wrap the nylon string once or twice around the little lug and tie a normal double knot. The metal end piece of the snare wires should not touch the rim, place it a little inside the edge of the shell. Consider that under tension the wires might pull to the side where you pull them tight.

When you are sure about the position, add a few more knots so the string is properly tight.

Keep an eye on the position of the wires, they shouldn’t touch the shell on the edge but lie in the middle.

Check the video how the wires are touching the shell - this was too close, we had to redo it.

Then do the other side, grab the strainer and the nut. Pop the strainer through the bracket and loosely screw on the nut.

Cut another piece of nylon string (30cm should be plenty), and again thread through both holes on the wires, then through the holes on the caixa rim.

Thread through the holes in the strainer, pull as tight as possible and make some knots. No worries - we’ll put more tension on it once the wires are tied in.

Fine-tune the caixa and you’re good to go!
