जम्मू-कश्मीर के पहलगाम में 22 अप्रैल 2025 को हुए आतंकवादी हमले के बाद भारत ने पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ बड़ा कूटनीतिक कदम उठाया। भारत सरकार ने सिंधु जल समझौता (Indus Water Treaty) को आंशिक रूप से सस्पेंड कर दिया है। इसका असर पाकिस्तान पर सीधे दिख रहा है, जहां पानी की भारी किल्लत शुरू हो गई है। जल संकट से जूझता पाकिस्तान अब संयुक्त राष्ट्र की चौखट पर पहुंच गया है। पाकिस्तान ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र में यह मुद्दा उठाया और भारत पर आरोप लगाया कि वह जल संधि के नियमों का उल्लंघन कर रहा है। मगर भारत ने इस मुद्दे पर एकदम साफ और सटीक जवाब दिया।

India's decision to keep the Indus River treaty in abeyance has caused alarm in Pakistan. The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) advisory committee on Monday expressed deep concern over a sudden decrease in River Chenab inflows at Marala due to short supply by India, which may result in a 21% water shortage in Pakistan during the early Kharif season. Mohammad Usman presented a research paper on "Water Wealth and Resources." He remarked that if India blocks the flow of water to Pakistan, it could also risk flooding its own upper regions. He added, “However, if they block our water during the dry season, it could be a matter of serious concern for us because water flow reduces and storage becomes most critical. This could adversely affect our farmers and result in decreased crop yields.”"Indus River System Authority Advisory Committee (IAC) reviewed the water situation for the remaining months of "Early Kharif" (May - Jun 10) Late Kharif (Jun 11 - Sep) season. It was noted with concern unanimously that sudden decrease in river Chenab inflows at Marala due to short supply by India would result in more shortages in Early Kharif Season," the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) stated in a press release.
