Australian Mark Holden has had an international career spanning several decades and he is still only 57! As a leading heartthrob on tv soaps, panel shows and the pop music scene, he was omnipotent in Australian showbusiness in the Mid 70's winning awards and selling lots of records. By 1977, the last of his run of five hits had charted, and despite breaking into feature film roles too, he quickly retreated, and relocated to America, where he would reinvent himself as a songwriter/producer of great note. In the late 90's he returned to Oz, and in 2003 found fame all over again with another generation of viewers with Australian Idol. The handsome fella had lost none of his charisma, but was quirky and bizarre in equal measures with his judging comments and presence.
"Hey My Love" is the 4th of his chart successes, after "Never Gonna Fall in love again"(#13), "I wanna make you my lady" (#11), "Last Romance" (#10) all from 1976. His final Top 40 hit was "Reach out for the one who loves you" (#18) late in 1977. "Hey my love" was released in February of 1977 and climbed only just into the Top 30, but I think it is one of his best vocal performances - emphatic and impassioned. It is a bit of a rarity and one of his least known tracks, but Aussie fans will probably recall it! I thought it was perfect for Valentines Day. And for those of us without valentines - keep loving and being loving creatures. Enjoy!
