In October 52 BC, the great Gallic Vercingétorix, head of the Arverni tribe, surrendered, after several months of siege, to the Roman legions led by Julius Caesar, with which Gaul lost its independence and became definitely in a Roman province. The Battle of Alesia took place in September 52 B.C. And it was the last episode of the long Gallic War, which pitted the Gallic tribes and the Romans from 58 B.C. and that was widely described by Julius Caesar in his work Comments on the Gallic War. After the surrender, the Liberator Gallus was taken to Rome and six years later he was cowardly assassinated by the Roman tyranny.
