The 5 concertos for 2 lire organizzate were written by Haydn in 1786 for Ferdinand IV, King of Naples, whose favorite instrument was the lira organizzata - an instrument similar to the hurdy-gurdy.
The second and third movement of the Concerto n. 5 were later adapted to be part of Symphony n. 89 (See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of....
In this 1966 recording, the concertos were arranged for lira solo by the performer, the German harpsichordist and music pedagogue Hugo Ruf.
