As someone who has been in Arizona for 7 years, I’m calling bullsh*t on these 5 myths:
🥵 Myth 1: “It’s hot ALL the time.”
Yes, summers are intense. Tucson sees 112+ days over 100°F and 13 over 110°F. But we do have seasons. Fall is just warmer than we would like when we are drinking those pumpkin lattes. Spring is breezy and winter mornings call for a hoodie or a thicker jacket if you live up north.
🏊♂️ Myth 2: “You need a pool or you’ll combust.”
Pools are nice, but not essential. Many residents make it through summer with community pools, splash pads, and a solid relationship with their thermostat. Bonus: your utility bill breathes easier in winter.
👵 Myth 3: “Only retirees live there.”
Arizona isn’t just for snowbirds. With booming tech, affordable housing (compared to CA), and major universities, it’s a magnet for millennials and Gen Z. Cities like Oro Valley, Marana, Dove Mountain, and Catalina Foothills are full of families and young professionals.
🌧️ Myth 4: “It never rains.”
We actually get monsoon season, typically June through September. Expect dramatic skies, flash floods, and the occasional haboob (that’s a real word, not a typo). It’s not the Sahara, we promise.
💸 Myth 5: “It’s cheap to live here.”
Arizona is more affordable than coastal cities, but it’s no longer a hidden bargain. As of 2025, median home prices in Tucson hover around $430K–$450K, and property taxes vary by area. Cost of living has risen along with demand. It’s still a great value, just not “dirt cheap.”
Arizona isn’t just sunshine and saguaros. It’s diverse communities, a different kind of seasons, and a lifestyle that surprises people...in the best way.
